Big News for Hobart Graduates: Two-Year Second 485 Visa is Now Available

Since 12 September 2025, there’s great news for international graduates from Hobart and nearby areas. The Department has updated the rules for the Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visa.

If you've completed a higher education degree and lived in Hobart or eligible surrounding postcodes, you can now apply for a Second Post-Higher Education Work (PHEW) stream visa with a two-year validity.

Previously, eligible graduates from this region could only get a one-year visa under this stream. This change now puts Hobart on par with other regional areas, giving graduates the same extended post-study work rights.

So if you’ve studied and lived in Tasmania’s regional postcodes, you may now be eligible for a two-year Second Subclass 485 visa — a great opportunity to stay longer and gain more work experience in Australia.
